How to Buy A Bed Set

Once upon a time, the majority of bed sets only had a few pieces involved, the bed, a dresser and possibly a nightstand. Today, a bed set may be made of any of a combination of pieces of furniture, and can suit nearly any bedroom size or look.

Here's a look at some of the pieces of furniture you may be able to choose from when considering a new bed set:

• Bed Frame - This is literally the frame of the bed and the centerpiece of bedroom furniture sets. The purchase of a bed frame does not include the mattresses, but just the frame that goes around it, to make it look like a piece of furniture, rather than a pair of mattresses stacked atop one another.

• Dresser - A dresser is the most common place to put folded clothes and undergarments in a bedroom. These are those long sets of drawers that often have two stacks of 2-4 drawers side by side. Often these pieces are coupled with a mirror on the top.

• Chest of Drawers - If you are building up instead of wide with bedroom furniture sets, you may want a chest of drawers. A chest of drawers is a stack of drawers, one on top of the other. These are also called high boys as well as a chest of drawers. For those who are trying to conserve floor space in the bedroom, a chest of drawers is a better option than a dresser.

• Nightstand -You will always need a place beside the bed to set a glass of water, a book, glasses or anything else you would like close to the bedside. This is also a great place to put a lamp, so you can turn it on and see where you are going if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

• Armoire - The armoire can be a magnificent centerpiece of your bed set. Armoires are large furniture pieces that can serve a number of purposes. First, the bottom level of most armoires have drawers, to store any of the items you may need to put away in your bedroom. Then comes the top of the armoire. There will be two doors that you will pull open to unveil either a secondary set of drawers or a shelving unit. The shelving unit is often used to hold a television or other entertainment items for your bedroom.

• Lingerie Chest - A lingerie chest is an often forgotten piece of your bed set. Often made with felt-lined drawers, lingerie chests are meant to hold more delicate clothing items.

• Entertainment Center - Just as important to the bedroom as the bed is, in many cases, the bedroom entertainment center is considered a must-have piece in today's bedroom furniture sets. Many people spend a lot of time kicking back in bed and relaxing after a long day. For this reason, many a bed set manufacturers now offer matching entertainment centers to hold a television, cable box, DVD player and any other home theater items needed to complete the set up.
